Senior Project #4
My very first initial goals consisted of one goal, and that goal was to come out of college with less debt. When I unluckily wasn't scheduled with many hours the first two weeks of the project I gave myself many other goals to accomplish. These consisted of painting/ spending more time on the drawings in my journal, practicing mandarin with friends via Fortnite, working out 5 days a week, drinking a gallon of water a day (inspired by Benjamin), and finally cooking with my mom more. I did in fact reduce my college debt, especially in the second two weeks where I worked for about 50 hours in total. I have spent more time in my journal, more time doing art in general and have worked on a painting with a work friend all of these activities has felt great. I have cooked a lot more however not very often with my mom. Over the course of the project I made coconut Thai curry, beyond burgers, wagyu burger, and regular griddles burgers. I perfected the art of the caramelized onion, made savory popovers, I made dumplings with William's family, fish and chips with Lizzy, doner kebab sandwiches with an old friend, pizza with Hannah and a burrito sandwich. I have certainly drunk much more water than usual and have downed two cups of water as soon as I wake up every morning. I haven't done the best job of tracking my gallon after the first two days but I intend to keep working toward this goal. I unfortunately haven't studied much mandarin but have continued to speak with a coworker, and during the dumpling dinner at William's I had a lovely conversation in mandarin with him and his mom. In addition, I have been using Duo lingo on and off to get some practice in. My workouts were going great until I got a cold and wasn't able to continue. The second two weeks of the project I did a workout every weekday and alternated between core/ upper body and legs.
Although my senior project was very enjoyable and comfortable I poorly planned my schedule and back up plans. If you are looking to continue a job during senior projects you should have lots of goals set that you must try your best to stick to throughout the project. I found that I had a lot of relaxation time which I did need, but I know that some of that time could have been spent more productively.
It sounds like you got a lot in! If you feel it could have been better scheduled, then this is a good lesson to learn for the future. This is life outside of school, so this was a good trial run for creating structure for yourself. You didn't get to try different structures, but at least you know that you would benefit from creating something for yourself next time.
